CHRISTUS Community Direct Investment Program


A loan program provided by CHRISTUS Health to support our commitment to creating healthier communities.

The Community Direct Investment Program is an expression of CHRISTUS Health’s commitment to promoting the total health of the community. Through the Community Direct Investment Program, loans and certain economically linked deposits may be made directly to community development projects or through a variety of vehicles, such as minority owned or community-based financial institutions including banks, credit unions, or other community development loan funds or intermediaries.

Purpose

To assure the financial resources of CHRISTUS Health serve its mission and vision by utilizing Community Direct Investments to support affordable housing and other community development projects that empower persons who are economically poor and that seek to improve the health and quality of life of vulnerable communities.

Types of Investments

  • Loans to Intermediaries: A loan is made to a non-profit organization which then lends the funds to community development programs.
  • Direct Loans: A loan, guaranty or credit enhancement is made directly to a non-profit entity such as a community development corporation.
  • Economically Linked Deposits: A certificate of deposit or linked deposit is made at a minority-owned, community development, or other financial institution. A portion of the interest is directed to support social or economic development.
