She then earned a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling at The Ohio State University where she presented her thesis work on “Assessing Genetic Counselors’ Current Practice and Perceived Utility of Race, Ethnicity, and Ancestry (REA) Data Collection During Clinical Encounters.” As a first year graduate student, Shontiara was awarded the opportunity to become Color Health’s first Genetic Counseling Summer Scholar. During her internship at the population health technology company, she created and developed the “Genetic Counseling Immersive.” The Genetic Counseling Immersive is a remote program that provides genetic counseling experiences for applicants who have been historically excluded from the field of genetic counseling.
