CHRISTUS Health's Commitment
to its Patients Regarding
Financial Matters

The CHRISTUS Health mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ guides our organization in all of our interactions. Our mission ensures that we provide health care services - from your admitting experience to your clinical procedure - in a professional and respectful manner.

While current laws and regulations restrict us from offering across-the-board discounts, CHRISTUS Health strives to compassionately serve uninsured patients with an understanding of their financial burdens. To help those without insurance who are not able to qualify as Charity Care, CHRISTUS offers uninsured discounts at our acute care facilities. You may review that policy at here. In addition, CHRISTUS Health's commitment to the uninsured is also demonstrated by our billing and collection practices.

CHRISTUS Health is committed to the following:

  • CHRISTUS Health will not pursue legal action for nonpayment of a hospital bill against any person who has worked with us in good faith to demonstrate his or her inability to pay and who is unemployed or otherwise financially unable to pay.
  • CHRISTUS Health will not pursue legal action for nonpayment if the only way to collect the payment would be to place a lien on a patient's home. In addition, CHRISTUS Health will not place a lien on a patient's home if the home is the patient's only asset.
  • CHRISTUS facilities will continue to treat patients in our emergency departments without regard to the patient's ability to pay. Patients will be treated as appropriate by health care professionals.CHRISTUS Health is committed to continuing a ministry that has provided service to thousands of individuals, both young and old, for more than 130 years. However, continuing this ministry requires a substantial financial investment, and so we must expect some form of payment at the time of service. If you are unable to pay, we will assist you in completing the qualifying application for programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP and similar federal and state government-sponsored programs.

If you do not qualify for such government-sponsored programs, we will then assist you in completing the application to qualify for Charity Care. You can view the information you will need to complete a financial assistance application here. However, financial assistanceapplications vary by facility, but most of them contain similar information, so be prepared to provide it if you are planning to apply for any form of financial assistance. In addition, you may ask to speak with a financial counselor at any time who can explain payment plan options.
