Percutaneous cardiovascular procedures with drug eluting stent without major cardiovascular diagnosis
A catheter-guided balloon is used to open a narrowed coronary artery in patients who had no major cardiovascular diagnosis. A stent (a wire-mesh tube that expands to hold an artery open) is placed at the section of the narrowed artery. In this case, the stent is coated with a substance that slowly releases a drug to keep scar tissue from forming and reclogging heart arteries after the procedure.
