Contact State or Local Ombudsmen
An ombudsman is state or county government advocate for residents of nursing homes, board and care homes and assisted living facilities who will be familiar with the facilities in your area and often with the staff and residents who reside in them.

An ombudsmen can help you find and interpret information from state inspection reports and the resident characteristics or quality measures.

Contact Citizen Advocacy Groups
Also, many states and/or communities have active Citizen Advocacy Groups that are knowledgeable about nursing homes and can be very helpful in evaluating advice and information you receive. To find a local or state citizen advocacy group go to the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform website by clicking on the link above and then click on the button labeled "Citizen Groups" or call them at 202-332-2275.
