SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio celebrate the appointment of Dr. Harinder R. Singh as the chair holder of the Richard S. Wayne, M.D. Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cardiology.
The Richard S. Wayne, M.D. Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cardiology was awarded to Dr. Harinder R. Singh, to help him further advance education and research in the field of pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Singh currently serves as Cardiology Section Chief at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Singh received his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India. He went on to complete two residencies, the first at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children in Mumbai, India, and the second at Children’s Hospital of Michigan at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He also completed two fellowships, the first in pediatric cardiology, and the second in electrophysiology, both at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Dr. Singh joined The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in January 2015. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Cardiology and has been in practice for over 20 years. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to caring for and treating the underserved and improving children’s heart health through comprehensive care and clinical research.
In 2009, the Richard S. Wayne, M.D. Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cardiology was established by The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation and the Endowment Fund Board to commemorate the steadfast dedication, never-ending commitment and resilient leadership of Dr. Wayne, who has dedicated so much of his life to children. Dr. Wayne began his pediatric medicine journey at The Children’s Hospital in 1972 and continued until he became the regional vice president and administrator in 1995. In September 2008, he transitioned from his full-time administrative role and is now engaged as a pediatrician in the primary care clinic at The Children’s Hospital.
Endowed chairs recognize and foster excellence among medical professionals who are leaders in their field. Clinical, research, and educational opportunities for the recipient and the department they represent are supported through the earnings of a permanent fund. The Children's Hospital of San Antonio has nine endowed chairs.
