The Children's Hospital of San Antonio CEO Earns Prestigious Annual Advocacy Award February 2, 2021

(San Antonio, Texas) – The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio is proud to announce that Cris Daskevich, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, is the recipient of the American Hospital Association’s 2020 Grassroots Champion Award for the State of Texas. The award recognizes those hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s vital role in the community, who have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and who are tireless advocates for hospitals and their patients.

Daskevich has been a strong advocate for The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and CHRISTUS Health, serving as the Senior Vice President of Maternal Services for the health system. Over the years, she has engaged our local congressional delegation and policy makers through various avenues, participating in fly-ins to engage members of Congress through personal meetings and targeting outreach to policy makers to advocate for health care and public health priorities. Daskevich has also participated in the Children’s Hospital Association’s Family Advocacy Day in Washington, DC to speak about the importance for Medicaid, particularly for medically complex patients at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

Daskevich has also hosted numerous elected officials at the hospital to display the critical work being done for the children of San Antonio and their families. She currently serves on the boards of the Texas Hospital Association (THA) and the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas, and on the American Hospital Association (AHA) Regional Policy Board – all of which are active advocacy organizations.  She is also immediate past chair of the THA HOSPAC board.

In a personal note of congratulations for earning the award, THA President and CEO Ted Shaw calls Daskevich “a true champion for Texas hospitals.”

“I strongly believe that advocacy is a critical part of my role as a leader and I am humbled by the recognition from the American Hospital Association and THA,” Daskevich said. “Our Associates and physicians work tirelessly every day and are committed to provide vital services to some of Texas’ most vulnerable communities. I will continue to advocate on behalf of our patients, families, physicians and communities and I encourage everyone to speak up on public policy priorities.”
