Our Approach

Kidneys filter out the waste and excess fluids from our bodies by producing urine. This complex process helps keep our bodies in stable metabolic balance. Kidney disease can upset this delicate metabolic balance, leading to mild to severe illness.

Nephrology services at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio bring together a multidisciplinary team of professionals trained in the evaluation and treatment of infants and children with a wide variety of kidney and urinary tract disorders. In line with the mission of CHRISTUS Health, our experienced team of providers ensures that patients receive care in a safe, friendly, caring and compassionate atmosphere. We provide outpatient services at our downtown hospital campus, Stone Oak and New Braunfels.

We provide patient- and family-centered care, which means we put patients and families first. Our multidisciplinary team includes nephrologists, renal pathologists, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, and child life specialists.  We also work closely with our surgical colleagues in urology to provide care to children with urologic disorders such as hydronephrosis, hydroureteronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux, neurogenic bladder, obstructive urinary tract disorders, kidney stones and many other conditions.
