CHRISTUS Santa Rosa–Medical Center Earns Gold Beacon Award for Excellence December 17, 2018

Beacon Award

(San Antonio, TX) – The high-quality life-saving measures at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-Medical Center have earned a Gold Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), recognizing excellence in Intensive Care.

The Gold Beacon Award is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments, and spotlights the nurses and doctors of units who provide exceptional patient outcomes and align their practices with the AACN’s stringent standards.

“We are honored to earn this national recognition, thanks to the commitment to excellence and high-quality care from our many nurses, physicians, clinicians and Associates,” said Dr. Ian Thompson, President of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-Medical Center.

“This prestigious certification recognizes that our Intensive Care Team has met or exceeded the highest standards of care set forth by the AACN,” Thompson added. “Most importantly, what this really means is that CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center provides exceptional care for our patients.”

The three-year designation is distributed to hospitals that meet top national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award. Since 2010, just over 500 units nationwide have earned this prestigious designation, according to the AACN.

To earn the Gold Beacon Award, the Intensive Care Unit at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-Medical Center must meet several top evidence-based criteria including leadership structures and systems, appropriate staffing and staff engagement, effective communication, knowledge management, learning, and development, evidence-based practice and processes, outcome measurement and more.
