CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Orthopedic Surgeon Receives Prestigious Award June 10, 2020

(San Antonio, TX) – CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System is proud to announce that Jesse C. DeLee, MD has been awarded the Thomas Brady Award. Each year since 1999, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) has presented the Brady award to an orthopedic surgeon who has demonstrated excellence in sports medicine in his local geographic area. Dr. DeLee first became interested in sports medicine early in his orthopedic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he began covering football games for high schools in San Antonio in 1974. In the 45 years since then, he has provided medical coverage for over 800 high school football games in the San Antonio area. Dr. DeLee is the first orthopedic surgeon within the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa ministry to receive the Brady Award.

In 2017, Dr. DeLee was inducted into the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Hall of Fame, the highest honor an AOSSM member can achieve. In 2015, Dr. DeLee was elected to the Alamo Area Trainers’ Hall of Fame – an honor given for his long-standing work in support of San Antonio area athletic trainers.

Dr. DeLee also helped establish the DeLee-Evans Foundation for Sports Medicine, which has awarded more than 80 college scholarships to San Antonio area high school students seeking college level training in the field of sports medicine.

Dr. DeLee founded an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1988. Since its founding, more than forty orthopedic surgeons have completed the fellowship.

Dr. DeLee has served as Chairman of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Medical Advisory Committee since its inception in 2000. This committee is responsible for the oversight of all medical aspects of high school athletics in the state of Texas.

Dr. DeLee is the co-founder and co-editor of DeLee and Drez’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, the internationally recognized text book for Sports Medicine. He has authored more than 50 articles in peer review journals; contributed more than a dozen chapters to textbooks and served as a reviewer for many Sports Medicine Journals.

Dr. DeLee has practiced orthopedic sports medicine since 1978 and currently practices at OrthoSA in San Antonio, Texas.
