U.S. News & World Report Names CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System Among Best in Nation October 29, 2018

(San Antonio, TX) – CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System-San Antonio has been recognized as one of the best places in the country to receive treatment for Heart Failure in 2018-2019 by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 29th year, are part of U.S. News’ patient portal, designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions or for common elective procedures.

“We are thrilled and honored to receive this recognition this year,” said Dean Alexander, President and CEO of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System. “This was made possible because of the hard work, dedication and expertise of our Associates, medical staff and our entire team throughout the system. Providing the highest quality care is the goal of everyone at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and being named among the best hospitals in the nation is a testament to their efforts on behalf of our patients every single day.”

For the 2018-19 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 158 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.

“For nearly 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to healthcare consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available, we give patients and their physicians’ information to support their search for the best care across a range of specialties.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely or entirely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

A hospital's heart failure score is based on multiple data categories, including patient survival, volume and more. Hospitals received one of three ratings -- high performing, average or below average -- unless they treated an insufficient number of patients to be rated. Hospitals that earned a high performing rating were significantly better than the national average.

The Best Hospitals rankings are produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
