Texas Biomed and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Team Up to Tackle Kawasaki Disease

Texas Biomedical Research Institute and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio have joined forces to cure a mysterious condition called Kawasaki disease. The illness which affects young children is named after the Japanese doctor who first described it more than 50 years ago. However, researchers still do not know what causes the rashes, fever, and artery damage. Some type of infectious agent is suspected.

The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio First in South Texas to Earn Prestigious Baby-Friendly Hospital Designation

An international recognition spotlight is now on The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio for creating an environment and culture that supports mother-baby bonding, breastfeeding and best practice in maternity care. The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio is the first hospital in San Antonio, and among only a select few in the nation, to earn this recognition as a Baby-Friendly Hospital.

CHEF Award 2018

The Culinary Health Education for Families program at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio received the Innovation Award for Health Care Provider Training and Education at the Second Annual Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives national conference. The award, presented in Napa, California on Saturday, recognizes leading health professional training programs providing innovative nutrition, physical activity, and obesity counseling education to their students.

New Chief Executive Officer Selected to Lead The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio

After a nationwide search, CHRISTUS Health has selected Cris Daskevich, FACHE, as Chief Executive Officer at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. As part of the strategy to elevate the status of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio along with pediatric and maternal services within CHRISTUS Health, Daskevich will also serve as Senior Vice President of Maternal Services for the CHRISTUS Health system in the U.S. and Latin America. 

Charles Hankins

New Leadership at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Announced

Dr. Charles Hankins will join CHRISTUS Health as the President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio effective January 8, 2018. Dr. Hankins will serve as Senior Vice President with responsibility for enhancing and growing pediatric services in coordination with the Chief Executive Officers of the U.S. and Latin American health care ministries of CHRISTUS Health System.

ECMO Expertise in Life Support

The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio has once again achieved the highest level of recognition for its use of life-saving technology known as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation or “ECMO.” The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) presented the Gold Level ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support to representatives from both the Neonatal and the Pediatric Intensive Care Units at its annual conference in Baltimore last week.
