New Chief Executive Officer Selected to Lead The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio January 22, 2018

Chris Daskevich

After a nationwide search, CHRISTUS Health has selected Cris Daskevich, FACHE, as Chief Executive Officer at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. As part of the strategy to elevate the status of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio along with pediatric and maternal services within CHRISTUS Health, Daskevich will also serve as Senior Vice President of Maternal Services for the CHRISTUS Health system in the U.S. and Latin America. Her first day on the job will be February 19.

Daskevich will join Dr. Charles Hankins at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, who joined the leadership team earlier this month as President and Chief Medical Officer. Together, the two will be part of a dyad leadership model which has proven to be effective in ensuring strategy and decision-making are done jointly by taking advantage of both physician and administrative leadership expertise with insight into clinical, administrative and support operations.

Daskevich has served as Senior Vice President at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and brings with her more than 21 years of experience in health care administration. Hankins and Daskevich enjoyed a 15-year dyad working relationship at Texas Children’s Hospital, where they created and implemented a robust maternal, fetal, and neonatal program across greater Houston and beyond.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join CHRISTUS Health and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio to build upon the strong foundation of care for women and children in San Antonio, South Texas and beyond. In partnership with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, we have incredible potential to elevate our pediatric and maternal fetal medicine service offerings across the CHRISTUS Health system,” Daskevich said. “I am excited to partner with Charles once again to develop a robust vision and strategic plan for maternal and pediatric services.”

In their roles with The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Daskevich and Hankins will provide experience and leadership as CHRISTUS continues its strategic growth and development of maternal and pediatric services. They will also oversee facility and ambulatory expansion throughout the community, including the recruitment of pediatric and maternal fetal medicine specialists through partnership with Baylor College of Medicine. Of great importance, they will spend significant time and effort working with physicians and clinicians to accelerate clinical program development to maximize access to our ministries and the highest quality care in the communities we serve. This will include work to better delineate The Children’s Hospital from the adult hospitals and services of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa.

Daskevich received a Master of Healthcare Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) and a Bachelor of Science in psychology with an emphasis in neurosciences from Texas Christian University. She was an administrative fellow with Texas Children’s in Houston where she built an impressive career leading and directing a wide variety of significant hospital and system-level operational areas.

Daskevich led the creation of multiple pediatric subspecialty centers to increase access to tertiary care and she also developed maternal fetal medicine practices, an internationally renowned fetal center, inpatient pediatric services, and neonatal intensive care coverage models at multiple community hospitals within several different health care systems across Greater Houston. More recently, she oversaw the construction, opening, and successful operations of Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women. Daskevich also led pediatric and maternal health policy and advocacy at both the state and federal levels as well as global health and international patient services. In addition, she has served on multiple state and national committees and boards for numerous health care organizations. These include Texas Hospital Association (THA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Children’s Hospital Association of Texas (CHAT), Children’s Hospital Association (CHA), The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies (TCHMB), Baylor Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), March of Dimes, the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC).

Daskevich is an ACHE Fellow and a Senior Fellow in the American Leadership Forum (ALF).
