Living Donor Program
Paired with Hope™ is CHRISTUS Transplant Institute’s living donor program. Our goal is to encourage and motivate each transplant candidate on the deceased donor wait list to discuss with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and others the difficulty receiving a kidney transplant.
With the wait-list for a deceased kidney over five years, the kidney transplant candidate’s health and life expectancy are jeopardized.
Our living donor team is here to educate, coach, encourage, and coordinate the successful matching of the transplant wait-listed dialysis patient to a giving living individual today.
National wait times to receive a kidney transplant have become burdensome. In South Texas, wait times are some of the longest in the U.S. Nationally, about 32 percent of patients waiting will have received their transplant within three years, but about half of those on the wait-list for a kidney transplant will have received one in South Texas.
In the U.S., seven percent of patients on the kidney transplant list each year die while waiting.
All of our activities and outcomes are reported to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) and are located at www.ustransplant.org, allowing regulators, providers, and patients full access to center-specific data and results.
