Two years in a row: CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills honored with Mission: Lifeline quality achievement award July 8, 2016

For the second year in a row, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital –Westover Hills (CSRH—WH) has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA); this time by receiving the Mission: Lifeline® Bronze Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the AHA for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.

“The time after a heart attack is crucial, since a patient loses more and more heart muscle. At CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills, we have some of the best heart attack response times in the region. That’s a testament to our emergency room and our cath lab staff,” said Ken Perry, BSN, RN, Cardiovascular Services Director, CSRH—WH.

Each year in the United States, more than 250,000 people have a STEMI, or ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment. To prevent death, it’s critical to immediately restore blood flow, either by surgically opening the blocked vessel or by giving clot-busting medication.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call and continuing through hospital treatment. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for the quick and appropriate treatment of cardiac patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed. The “Plus” in the award recognition means CSRH – WH has reached an achievement score of 75 percent or greater for treating STEMI transfer patients within 120 minutes.

“This award showcases the continuous efforts CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills is taking daily to improve the quality of care for our patients who suffer a heart attack,” said Jeff Bourgeois, FACHE, president and administrator, CSRH - WH. “I am very proud of our cardiovascular specialists and Associates for their continued commitment to providing high-quality, cardiac care.”

“We commend CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills for this achievement award, which reflects a significant institutional commitment to the highest quality of care for their heart attack patients,” said James G. Jollis, MD, Chair of the Mission: Lifeline Advisory Working Group. “Achieving this award means the Hospital has met specific reporting and achievement measures for the treatment of their patients who suffer heart attacks and we applaud them for their commitment to quality and timely care.”

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills is proud to also be accredited as a Certified Chest Pain Center with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.
