Shreveport, Louisiana – Heart disease remains a major threat across North Louisiana, and CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System is meeting the challenge head on with expansion of their renowned cardiovascular surgery program through the addition of cardiovascular surgeons Timothy Danish, M.D., and John Evans, M.D. The two physicians joined Mary C. Mancini, M.D., Ph.D., at CHRISTUS Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, 1453 E. Bert Kouns Ind. Loop, Ste. 319, Shreveport.
“These two talented and compassionate surgeons allow us to expand access to cutting edge treatment and procedures that will truly save lives here in Shreveport-Bossier and the surrounding region,” said Steen Trawick, M.D., CEO. “From valve repair and minimally invasive surgeries to lung surgeries and other critically important procedures, Dr. Danish and Dr. Evans, along with Dr. Mancini, play a huge part in ensuring that the people of this community are able to receive the surgical care they need. The providers at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier offer the highest levels of skill expertise, providing a full continuum of world-class cardiac care to a region extending beyond North Louisiana, but in 250 miles in every direction.”
Dr. Danish joins the CHRISTUS team from LSU Health Sciences Center – University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was an assistant professor of surgery. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Rutgers University in New Jersey, before completing his internship and residency in their health care facility, as well. Dr. Danish also underwent a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship program at Vanderbilt in Nashville. He is board-certified in both general and cardiothoracic surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the TSRA Mentorship Program.
“My goal is to provide this community with the highest quality, cutting edge heart/lung surgical care, and to do so with a patient and family-centered approach,” said Dr. Danish. “Having to undergo heart or lung surgery is often a major life event that requires a wide support system. Coming from a large, close-knit family that has faced medical challenges, I deeply value the importance of having a real connection and building a level of comfort when facing these types of procedures and big decisions. I have supreme confidence in our team here, and I look forward to delivering unmatched cardiac and thoracic surgical care around the clock to meet the needs of this community.”
A Shreveport native, Dr. Evans provides surgical management of cardiac diseases to all adults including on- and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic surgery, as well as valvular repair and replacement, in addition to surgeries of the lung and chest cavity.
“It was during my residency in general surgery that I fell in love with cardiothoracic surgery,” said Dr. Evans. “Having completed all of my training and now returning to my hometown, I consider myself blessed to be able to care for those in our local community and the surrounding areas suffering from cardiac and thoracic diseases.”
Dr. Evans received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University, proudly witnessing LSU’s first football national championship in 45 years in 2003. He earned his medical degree locally from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport before moving to Birmingham and Nashville to undergo his general surgery training at UAB and cardiothoracic training at Vanderbilt, respectively.
“By strengthening our team, we are demonstrating our ongoing commitment to provide exceptional cardiovascular surgical care,” said Dr. Mancini. “Along with every member of our team, I am excited to have Dr. Danish and Dr. Evans joining the team and feel they will be a tremendous asset for CHRISTUS Health across the region.”
