Extra Level of Care
Spiritual care goes hand-in-hand with physical care daily at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System.
Ben Marshall Jr. is a local lawyer and radio personality who began experiencing heart issues a few years ago.
“I would get lightheaded for no reason, and my pulse would race,” Ben says. “I’d feel clammy, and my throat would get tight. The first time it happened, I thought I was having a heart attack.”
Ben was diagnosed with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, which causes sporadic episodes of rapid heart rate. Though the condition was not debilitating or life-threatening, Ben was worried that he would experience symptoms during a court case or trial and decided to undergo a cardiac ablation procedure at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier.
The procedure took place on Easter weekend.“I was only at CHRISTUS for a day,” Ben says. “It’s a minor procedure, but I remember Father Thomas [John Vadakemuriyil] coming by while I was in recovery. It was reassuring when he came to see me, and it comforted me to know I had that extra level of care, especially since I’m Catholic.”
Ben no longer has heart rate issues and is grateful for the physical and spiritual care he received at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier.
“I would recommend CHRISTUS to anyone,” he says.
