CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System Statement Regarding Rumors of COVID-19 Spread in South Texas
March 12, 2020 - 12:02 p.m.
Beaumont, Texas – We understand that the potential impact of COVID-19 and its presence in Beaumont and surrounding areas is a constantly evolving situation. The expanding and changing nature of the situation could lend itself to speculation and rumors of the Coronavirus spreading throughout our community. However, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System stresses the need to avoid sharing unfounded speculation and rumors, even in a joking manner, across social media platforms.
There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at any CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System facility. However, in the event that possible coronavirus patients need hospitalization after screening, we will work closely with local, state and federal authorities to confirm any such cases with the public.
At CHRISTUS Southeast Texas, we have always asked visitors to our facilities about their travel history and any respiratory symptoms they might be experiencing. This is to assess for various infectious disease risks, including this one. If a patient meets the current CDC criteria, and is exhibiting symptoms consistent with the virus, we will isolate the patient in a private room and take proper respiratory precautions to safely assess and treat them. Our priority is to safely care for any potential patients while protecting the health and wellbeing of our patients, physicians, Associates and volunteers.
CHRISTUS Health currently convenes daily, sometimes more, to check in on our emergency preparedness plans. We have had many hands on deck during this process. Nearly everyone — from physicians and nurses, quality and safety experts to those responsible for ordering supplies and keeping the hospital clean — is involved in making sure we can do best for our patients our Associates and this community we serve.
