CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital Celebrates Special CODE HOME Celebration
June 11, 2020
Lake Charles, Louisiana – This Friday morning at 10:00 a.m., Martha Simmons, the first COVID-19 patient admitted to CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital, will be discharged with a CODE HOME celebration.
After spending more almost 3 months fighting this disease, CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Associates, physicians and leaders will line the hall of the front of the hospital and give her the sendoff she deserves.
Mrs. Martha Simmons is an inspiration to anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her or caring for her during her stay. What started as “just feeling off” turned out to be a positive COVID-19 test followed by a long stay – almost 4 weeks of which she spent on a ventilator.
Although her family and all the people who cared for her here were very concerned for her, Mrs. Simmons never feared. She knew God had her and he would get her through this. She now considers her CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick care team a part of her family and is grateful and happy for the care she received while she was here.
Friday’s CODE HOME will begin on Unit 42 with a blessing from Father Charles. While practicing appropriate social distancing, everyone will gather and cheer for Mrs. Simmons as she makes her way down the front hall from Administration to the main entrance. There, she will be greeted by her family, her church family and the Sheriff’s Office will be waiting to escort her home.
