Third Annual Green Hat Charity Fun Run/Walk/Crawl and Cook-Off Hits the Streets March 14 March 9, 2020

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The streets of downtown Lake Charles will be filled with green during the third annual Green Hat Charity Fun Run/Walk/Crawl during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The race kicks off at 11 a.m. at Lake Charles City Transit Center at 1155 Ryan Street. The event benefits the Women’s Birthing Services at CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital and draws participants with food, fun and the chance to make a difference in someone’s life.

“We are thrilled to officially make this event a tradition,” said Kay C. Barnett, CFRE, CHRISTUS Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana Foundation Executive Director. “Last year, we were blessed with a great turnout for a wonderful event, and it made a tremendous impact for our patients. This year, we are looking to build on that strong foundation and make it bigger and better – so that our impact will continue to grow.”

Decked out in green hats and other Irish attire, participants will gather at the starting line at the Lake Charles Transit Center before running/walking/crawling across downtown Lake Charles as they enjoy Green Drinks and snacks along the way at the following stops:

  • Start Line at Lake Charles City Transit Center (1155 Ryan Street)
  • Plaid Pig with Crying Eagle Brewery (1155 Ryan Street)
  • 121 Artisan Bistro (121 Dr. Michael DeBakey Drive)
  • Laguna’s Mexican Grill & Cantina (1201 Lakeshore Drive)
  • Pujo Street Café (901 Ryan Street)
  • Historic City Hall Plaza with Louisiana Mortgage Associates (1001 Ryan Street)
  • Finish Line at Lake Charles City Transit Center for Green Hat Jambalaya Cook-Off (1155 Ryan Street)

“We received outstanding support from our community partners and sponsors for this year’s event,” said Barnett. “The Foundation and CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital staff are grateful for the support from our sponsors, Sweet Lake Land and Oil Company, LLC; KPLC; Citgo; American Press; Louisiana Mortgage Associates; Merchants & Farmers Bank; Cajun Country Rice; Digikast; JD Bank; Tim & Jordan Haman; Stockwell, Sievert, Viccellio, Clements & Shaddock, L.L.P. ; P.S. Promotions; B1 Bank; Lamar Advertising; Champeaux Evans Hotard Architects and Triad – The Newtron Group.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit Women’s Birthing Services at CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital, helping fund advanced fetal monitoring units that provide accurate monitoring of babies while allowing the mother to ambulate. “This monitor allows for fetal heartbeat monitoring at 28 weeks gestation, whereas a typical monitor does not allow for such early heartbeat monitoring,” said Matthew Welsh, Development Specialist for the CHRISTUS Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana Foundation. “The Green Hat Charity Fun Run/Walk/Crawl will enable the Foundation to fund this specialized equipment and raise awareness in our community about the advanced equipment available to those in need.”

The Green Hat Charity Fun Run/Walk/Crawl and Cook-Off kicks off at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Charles Transit Center. Entry fees are $30 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under for those that register online by March11. Each entry fee includes a t-shirt and goodies, as well as a drink and an appetizer at each of the five stops on the route. All participants need to register online by March 11, and Run participants may also register the day of the event for an additional $5 per registration. Come early to do so.
