Ochsner CHRISTUS Health Centers Expand Access to Lifesaving Care Across Lake Charles, Add New Providers October 08, 2019

Lake Charles, Louisiana – CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana is expanding access to lifesaving cancer care across the Lake Charles area with the addition of Hematologist/Oncologist Paul Zhang, M.D.

Dr. Zhang treats patients at Ochsner CHRISTUS Health Center – Hematology/Oncology (4150 Nelson Rd., Bldg. G, Suite 2). He comes to Southwest Louisiana after serving as Medical Director of Medical Oncology at Institute of Integrative Bio Oncology and an attending physician at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He previously served as Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Hematology Oncology, at Baylor College of Medicine and held oncology positions at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (Houston), Hematology Oncology Life Center (Alexandria, LA) and St. Frances Cabrini Hospital (Alexandria).

He holds both a medical degree and a postgraduate doctoral degree. Dr. Zhang performed his residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University, as well as a clinical fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine and a cancer research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Zhang served as the principal investigator for eight different clinical trials over a five-year period from 2004-08. Ochsner’s Benson Cancer Center, named after late Saints owner Tom Benson and his wife Gayle, has one of the largest offerings of cancer clinical trials in the Gulf South. Dr. Zhang is board certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology and was named to the America’s Top Physician list in 2006 and 2007 by Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Family Medicine nurse practitioner Sarah Bardin joins both Ochsner CHRISTUS Health Center – Moss Bluff (1355 Sam Houston Jones Pkwy., Suite 355) and Ochsner CHRISTUS Health Center – Tybee Lane Primary Care (1960 Tybee Ln.). She brings over 15 years of experience, including the last eight treating patients in SWLA, and has experience in cardiology.

Urology nurse practitioners Candice Boudreaux, Martin Castillo and Robert Conner join Ochsner Health Center – Urology. Candice has worked in the Lake Charles area in nursing since 2009, including seven years of experience in the ICU at CHRISTUS St. Patrick hospital.

Martin bring over 10 years of experience, including seven years as a nurse practitioner in SWLA, with involvement in family practice, emergency medicine, urgent care, orthopedics, surgery, gastrointestinal and ear, nose and throat.

Robert brings nearly 30 years of nursing experience, including 15 years as a nurse practitioner. The McNeese graduate also served five years in the U.S. Navy. The urology team is moving to a newly renovated office location on the second floor at 401 Dr. Michael Debakey Dr., beginning October 15th.

Family Medicine nurse practitioner Traci Johnson joins Ochsner CHRISTUS Health Center – Family Medicine (4150 Nelson Rd, Building G, Suite 5). She has over 20 years of experience as a Cardiac Registered Nurse at Christus Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital and is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Additionally, she is a member of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
