CHRISTUS Spohn Breaks Ground on New Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center

(Corpus Christi, TX) - CHRISTUS Spohn Health System broke ground November 30th on the new Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center, taking the first step in its strategic plan to transform health care in the Coastal Bend. The 43,000-square-foot facility will serve Corpus Christi patients and their families, providing specialty clinics, extended hours, physician offices, labs, a drive-thru pharmacy and more. CHRISTUS Spohn leaders said it’s all part of the new transformation project, called Our PATH Forward, aimed at creating a healthier community and providing more access. “This is going to be part a wonderful network of providers. We’re very blessed in our community to have all of this,” said CHRISTUS Spohn President and CEO Pamela Robertson. “It’s all about treating the whole person in a comprehensive and coordinated way.”Community leaders gathered at the ceremony to break ground on the exciting project and honor its namesake, a revered South Texas physician and civil rights champion. “We are so happy that this day is here, this is such an honor for our family,” said Cecilia Akers, Dr. Garcia’s daughter and President of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation. The project is part of an unprecedented $275 million investment from CHRISTUS Health, to build the new clinic and create a new patient tower at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline which will also house the region's only Level II Trauma Center and Residency Programs. The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center is slated to open in Fall 2016.
