CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice Named COVID-19 Vaccination Hub Provider for Jim Wells County
January 21, 2021
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice has been named a COVID-19 Vaccination Hub by the State of Texas to serve the Jim Wells County community and surrounding areas. In an effort to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible to nearby residents, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice humbly accepted the responsibility of fulfilling this need. Beginning Thursday, January 21, 2021, hospital leadership, with support from Jim Wells County officials, began administering vaccines at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds, via a drive-through process.
The facility has received close to 1,000 Pfizer vaccines to distribute to those who meet the criteria for Phase 1A or Phase 1B. So far, more than 700 of those doses were administered to local hospital workers and emergency responders. Remaining vaccine doses will be available on a first come, first serve basis on Friday, January 22, starting at 8 a.m. No appointments are necessary and demand is expected to be high, so we are urging people to be patient.
At this time, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice expects to receive another shipment of vaccines. We are awaiting word from the State of Texas on the timing and quantity of that allocation.
CHRISTUS Health is currently working to create a process that will allow people to search for and schedule appointments online. We will also establish a new 24/7 call center that the public can call for information about or to schedule an appointment at a vaccination hub site in their communities. We expect to share specifics about those tools in the coming days.
