Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI

Hospitals awarded this designation have Primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) available 24/7 every day of the year. This means we have a Cardiac Call Team made up of the cath lab staff and an interventional cardiologist who arrive to the facility within 30 minutes of notification of a patient experiencing chest pain.

Accredited Chest Pain Centers must meet or exceed a wide set of criteria – everything from training of emergency personnel to timely diagnosis and treatment of heart attacks. They must also undergo on-site evaluations by a team of reviewers.

STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) are deadly heart attacks where the artery is 100 percent blocked. The biggest risk for cardiac arrest and muscle damage is within the first few hours after a vessels closes up. But research suggests that if the vessel is opened up within the first few hours of the blockage, the patient will have a better chance of survival and less muscle damage. CHRISTUS Spohn is equipped to treat patients with STEMI heart attacks in our cardiac catherization lab. We are a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center made up of an experienced cath lab team of clinicians and interventional cardiologists who arrive, at the Chest Pain Center, within 30 minutes of notification of a patient experiencing chest pain.
