Thornell Named VP-CNE

Louise Thornell, MSN, MsBA, RN, NE-BC has been selected as Vice President/Chief Nurse Executive for CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, TX, effective May 15, 2016. The announcement was made by Jason Rounds, COO/Administrator.
“Louise brings over 30 years of health care and nursing experience to this role along with 17 years of administrative management,” said Rounds. “She has demonstrated a track record of impressive nursing achievements that will continue to serve her well as our new CNE.”
“I am excited to continue my health care career through my new role at CHRISTUS St. Michael as we prepare to celebrate our 100th year of service to our community,” Thornell said. “The rapidly changing health care environment brings challenges every day. Our constant focus on our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ empowers us to consistently strive for excellence in the delivery of health care for Texarkana region. I am honored to be a part of a health care tradition that began in 1916 when three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word opened Michael Meagher Memorial Hospital.”
Previously Service Line Director for Emergency, Trauma and Nursing Services at CHRISTUS St. Michael, Thornell has served as interim CNE since October of 2015.
In her former role, she has been part of the nursing leadership team that helped CHRISTUS St. Michael achieve Magnet® recognition by the American Nursing Credentialing Center, a designation held by only 10% of U.S. hospitals. Among other achievements, Thornell directed efforts for CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System to be certified as a Level III Trauma Center for the States of Arkansas and Texas.
Thornell earned a BSN from University of Texas at Arlington, an MS in Business Administration from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, an MSN from Walden University and is currently a PhD nursing candidate through Walden University.
