Diabetes Specialist Martin Ruiz, MD to be White House Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker at Peruvian Independence Day Events
July 14, 2016
SANTA FE, N.M. – The Peruvian American National Council (PANC) has announced that CHRISTUS St. Vincent medical group physician Martin Ruiz, MD will be a guest of honor at the White House as part of the council’s Peruvian Independence Day celebration to be held July 20 and 21 in Washington, D.C. The PANC will recognize Dr. Ruiz for his outstanding achievements in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. He will also be the keynote speaker at the U.S. Senate ceremony on July 21.
As a diabetologist, Dr. Ruiz specializes in the care and management of metabolic disorders, including diabetes. In additional to insulin optimization and lifestyle changes, his approach to caring for diabetic patients emphasizes preserving the healthy function of insulin-producing cells and supporting optimum health of the brain, heart, kidneys and vascular system.
He is an active advocate for the prevention and management of diabetes, speaking at community workshops and conferences throughout Peru and New Mexico.
“I am honored to receive this award, and I look forward to using this opportunity to continue to share the important message of diabetes prevention, diagnosis and treatment,” says Dr. Ruiz. “In New Mexico, about 1 in 8 adults are affected by diabetes and many more by prediabetes. It’s a disease that puts people at risk for serious health complications, but we can reduce that risk by helping people lead healthier lives and ensuring they get the treatment they need.”
