Pat has over 40 years of healthcare experience that included his oversight as CEO of both a 30-bed rural hospital and a 900-bed inner city hospital. Carrier has a distinguished 15-year record of service within the CHRISTUS Health organization, having served as CEO of various CHRISTUS Health regions and divisions.
Most recently, Carrier served as Senior Vice President of CHRISTUS Health Group Operations -- overseeing eleven hospitals in San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Prior to assuming that role in February 2015, he served as President and CEO of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System: four adult hospitals, a children’s hospital and freestanding ERs.
Carrier is known for his efforts to develop collaborative relationships with physicians, employees, healthcare providers and community members. He recently led a $135 million renovation project that transformed CHRISTUS Santa Rosa’s downtown San Antonio adult campus into the city’s first freestanding children’s hospital. Carrier was also instrumental in expanding access to care by developing CHRISTUS Health’s first free-standing emergency centers.
Under his leadership, his team improved the quality of care provided to the community by creating the first independent primary care medical home network in San Antonio. These new medical homes resulted in a decrease of 30 percent in costs to patients over a 2-year period. Carrier’s region has also enjoyed the highest patient satisfaction scores of any multi-facility region within CHRISTUS.
