CHRISTUS Health provides new neurological care for Jasper community
11/06/2025
CHRISTUS Health is excited to provide advanced neurological care in Jasper with the addition of electroencephalogram (EEG) testing, enhancing the hospital’s ability to diagnose patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.
The new EEG technology provides the community with access to life-saving screenings locally, without the need to travel. EEGs test for seizures and epilepsy, including identifying the severity and type. It can also assist in diagnosing certain sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy, and is a critical tool for evaluating patients experiencing neurological symptoms caused by severe infections, metabolic disorders, or brain disease.
“This addition allows us to bring a higher level of neurological care to our community,” said Misty Chapman, supervisor of respiratory care for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – Jasper Memorial. “Having EEG capabilities here in Jasper means quicker answers, better continuity of care and keeping patients close to home for the testing and diagnostics they need.”
An EEG measures electrical activity in the brain and is a standard, non-invasive tool for identifying abnormalities affecting brain function. The test takes around 45 minutes and is painless.
“Our mission is to ensure patients in rural communities like Jasper have access to the same advanced diagnostic tools found in larger cities,” said Hannah Benton, respiratory therapist and team lead for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – Jasper Memorial. “Adding this service is one more way we’re living out our commitment to offer high-quality, compassionate care right here where our patients live.”
Patients who may need EEG testing can speak with their provider for a referral.
