CHRISTUS Health blesses new imaging system as oncology services begin in Longview

CHRISTUS Health announced today the implementation and blessing of its newest imaging system, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s launch of its new oncology services.

In keeping with CHRISTUS Health’s longstanding tradition of blessing new technology and facilities, hospital leaders, staff and community members gathered for a special ceremony to dedicate the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner.

“This is more than the introduction of a new piece of equipment,” said Kurt DeVaney, chief operating officer for CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System. “It represents our deep commitment to expanding access to world-class cancer care right here in our community. The PET scan allows us to begin offering access to a diagnostic oncology service that currently has limited availability in our community.”

The PET scanner will serve as the cornerstone of the hospital’s emerging oncology program, enabling physicians to detect, diagnose and monitor cancer with greater precision and speed.

CHRISTUS Health will open the new oncology clinic at the NorthPark campus in January, with the new CHRISTUS Cancer Center expected to open by Fall 2026.

Additional oncology technology, clinical staff and support services will be added in the coming months.

“This blessing reminds us that technology and compassion go hand in hand,” DeVaney said. “Each advancement brings new hope, and that hope begins today with this first step in our oncology program.”
