Six nonprofit organizations in North Louisiana received grants today totaling $305,000 for their programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of their communities.

Organizations were selected based on their programs that address community health concerns, including chronic disease management, health education, mental health and wellness, safe housing and food insecurity. The recipient organizations from the CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System region are:

  • Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA)
  • Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana
  • LSU Ag Center
  • Shreveport-based Community Renewal International
  • Shreveport Green
  • St. Luke’s Mobile Medical Ministry, Inc.

A ceremony at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System on Thursday recognized each of the recipients, which were awarded funds through the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund. The fund will distribute a total of $3.7 million this year to organizations in Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico communities served by CHRISTUS Health.

“The CHRISTUS Fund represents our mission in motion, and we’re grateful to support community organizations that serve with compassion, intention and meaningful impact,” said Jessica Guerra, program manager for community development at CHRISTUS Health. “It’s a privilege to collaborate with groups that exemplify service and bring light, healing and hope to those who need it most.”

Lauren Jones, executive director of Shreveport Green, an organization focused on environmental sustainability, said the grant will support the Mobile Market initiative, which delivers locally grown produce directly to neighborhoods with limited access to grocery stores.

The produce, sourced from local farmers and Shreveport Green’s own urban farm, is sold at just a dollar per pound. The market also features cooking demonstrations and pop-up events designed to make healthy eating more accessible and engaging for residents.

"This grant is going to mobilize so much more local funding into our farmers, help us grow, maintain our mobile market van, and support our staff—who are a big part of what we do and often overlooked,” Jones said.

Launched in 2011, the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund has invested more than $25 million into the communities served by CHRISTUS Health.

When combined with charity care and other community services, CHRISTUS Health invested more than $544 million into local communities in 2024.
