Patient Safety and Stroke Care Excellence

CHRISTUS St. Vincent is the recipient of the Healthgrades 2021 Patient Safety Excellence Award. The award recognizes hospitals in the top 10% in the nation for patient safety, with the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events, including hospital acquired infections and falls.

“Patient safety is our top priority,” said Lillian Montoya, CHRISTUS St. Vincent President and CEO. “This award is a testament to the extraordinary work of our dedicated nurses and providers who strive to ensure every one of our patients receives the highest quality care.”

Patient safety and quality of care are emphasized in many ways at CHRISTUS St. Vincent. Daily leadership safety huddles, hourly nurse rounding, education and training, regular safety fairs, and confidential safety event reporting all contribute to making the hospital one of the safest places to work and receive care.

“We are a ‘zero-harm’ culture, and we take a lot of pride in having an excellent safety record,” said Monica Leyba, RN, CHRISTUS St. Vincent Chief Nurse Executive. “We want to our patients know they are safe in our care, and we strive to treat everyone as though they were our own friends and family members.”

CHRISTUS St. Vincent has also received Healthgrades’ 2021 Stroke Care Excellence Award.

“North Central New Mexico can be proud of its community hospital,” said David Gonzales, MD, CHRISTUS St. Vincent Chief Medical Officer. “From emergency intervention to rehabilitation, CHRISTUS St. Vincent provides exceptional stroke care. Our stroke rehabilitation program is one of only two CARF-accredited stroke specialty programs in New Mexico – the gold standard of quality care.”
