CHRISTUS Spohn Health System hosts symposium showcasing Simulation Institute

5/07/2024

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi -Shoreline will host this year’s CHRISTUS Health Simulation Training and Improvement Symposium, bringing together clinical experts and community partners to explore the world of simulation-based learning.

CHRISTUS Health’s Simulation Institute offers state-of-the-art re-creations of clinical events and potential patient complications in a safe and controlled environment. This allows physicians and clinical associates to perfect skills and test their readiness to recognize and respond to potential patient emergencies by using life-like mannequins, simulators and task trainers.

The institute is spread throughout six centers across the system, including CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline. The centers are also utilized as training sites for researching new equipment and clinical processes and procedures. This allows researchers to learn the best ways to train and identify any gaps that may exist in order to improve and ensure the highest level of patient safety possible.

"Simulation-based learning and improvement is such an important strategy to help our clinicians and associates learn technical skills and to prepare for high-risk, low-frequency clinical scenarios such as maternal emergencies,” said Dr. Sam Bagchi, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for CHRISTUS Health System. “We are committed to using simulation to improve the reliability of our care and to continue to ensure our care is safe in a rapidly changing, complex health care environment.”

The simulation center located within CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline consists of six simulation rooms, a procedural training classroom, multiple high-fidelity simulators, state-of-the-art A/V system for remote facilitation and debriefing and a multitude of specific task and procedure trainers.

This year’s symposium will take place May 8-9. The media is invited to join CHRISTUS Health to learn more about the health system’s simulation training and how it impacts the health care of the Coastal Bend community.
