Meet Daren Tompkins, MD

Compassionate Care Rooted in Global Experience

Dr. Daren Tompkins brings a unique and deeply personal perspective to family medicine, shaped by a career dedicated to service and a genuine commitment to his patients' well-being. He believes that the foundation of great healthcare is a physician who truly listens, ensuring that every patient feels heard, understood, and respected.

A Decade of International Service

Before settling into his practice in Texas in 2018, Dr. Tompkins spent nearly a decade serving as a medical missionary in Zambia. From 2008 to 2018, he provided essential care in high-need, resource-limited environments, an experience that profoundly sharpened his diagnostic skills and deepened his empathy. This decade of service, which included six years managing clinical care at Mukinge Mission Hospital, taught him to practice medicine with resourcefulness and a heart for community.

Clinical Excellence and Leadership

Dr. Tompkins’ commitment to humanistic care was recognized early in his career when he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society as a fourth-year medical student. He went on to complete his Family Medicine residency with a focus on comprehensive care for the whole family, serving as Chief Resident during his third year. While he is highly skilled in managing a broad spectrum of conditions including Type 2 diabetes, hypertensive disorders, and infectious diseases, he remains focused on providing honest, evidence-based care tailored to the specific needs of the Jacksonville community.

  • Hypertensive Disorders including Familial Hypertension
  • Infectious Diseases, including Shingles and Respiratory Infections
  • Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Health
  • Rheumatological Conditions, including Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Preventive Screenings, including Bone Density and Arrhythmia

Philosophy of Care

For Dr. Tompkins, medicine is more than just treating symptoms; it is about providing healthcare that treats the whole person. He is widely recognized for his:

  • Attentive Listening: Maintaining a slower pace in the clinic to ensure all questions are answered and every patient feels heard.
  • Compassionate Advocacy: Prioritizing the dignity and well-being of every individual.
  • Clear Communication: Explaining complex diagnoses in simple, accessible terms without medical jargon.
  • Proactive Wellness: A focus on identifying health risks and preventive screenings before they become emergencies.

Dr. Tompkins is proud to serve his patients and their families, offering a steady hand and an experienced heart to help the Jacksonville community thrive.
