About

Dr. John W. Hinchey attended The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) for both medical school and residency training. He then continued his training with a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow reconstruction, where he worked with world renowned surgeons at both UTHSCSA and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) association. Dr. Hinchey treats all orthopedic injuries, and subspecializes in the treatment of shoulder and elbow issues.

For the past five years, Dr. Hinchey has provided top quality care for our Nation’s veterans as a full time orthopedic surgeon at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He currently is the Assistant Chief of Orthopaedics, and the Chief of the Shoulder and Elbow service. In addition, he is the Assistant Program Director for the Rockwood Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and holds a position of Adjunct Assistant Professor at UTHSCSA.

He is a leader in orthopedic organizations at local, state and national levels. Dr. Hinchey serves as the current President of the San Antonio Orthopaedic Society, and on the Board of Directors for Bexar County Medical Society. At the state level, he is an active participate with the Texas Medical Association’s House of Delegates and Membership Committee, and is a recent graduate of TMA’s Leadership College. Along with being a member of the Texas Orthopaedic Association’s Leadership Council, he also holds an elected position to the Texas Orthopaedic Political Action Committee (TOPAC) on the Board of Directors. Nationally, he was selected to be one of a handful of Texas representatives to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Councilors and is proud to represent Texas orthopedic surgeons at our Nation’s capital. In addition to his leadership roles in organized medicine, Dr. Hinchey is highly active in the education of residents and fellows. He has multiple contributions to orthopedic literature, including multiple textbook chapters, journal articles, self-assessment examinations and assists with many orthopedic courses throughout each year.

Dr. Hinchey and his wife, Christy, are natives of San Antonio. They have a young daughter who keeps them both busy and on their toes at all times. In addition, they are expecting the arrival of their son in March 2019. Beyond medicine, both Dr. Hinchey and his wife are involved in the San Antonio community and enjoy participating in many organizations.
