Dr. Lurah Welch attended Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport where she received her medical degree. She continued her studies there by completing a residency in pediatrics. She completed her fellowship training at the University of Florida Medical School in Jacksonville.
Early in life, she developed a passion for medicine. After starting medical school, she realized that her passion was to help children become healthy adults. During her pediatric residency, she enjoyed learning how hormones work throughout our bodies and sometimes present a complex challenge.
Dr. Welch finds it rewarding to identify a condition and develop an individualized treatment plan for each child. Her special interest are childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes. In her spare time, she enjoys weightlifting, running, hiking and reading.

We get most of our care in the military Healthcare setting, where appointments are no more than 10 to 15 minutes, and very rushed. It's always nice to meet with Dr Welch because she spends time with us and genuinely listens.
