Dr. Lurah Welch attended Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport where she received her medical degree. She continued her studies there by completing a residency in pediatrics. She completed her fellowship training at the University of Florida Medical School in Jacksonville.
Early in life, she developed a passion for medicine. After starting medical school, she realized that her passion was to help children become healthy adults. During her pediatric residency, she realized how much she enjoyed endocrinology – the study of hormones. She enjoyed learning how hormones work throughout our bodies and sometimes present a complex challenge that she finds rewarding.
Dr. Welch has a special interest in childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes. In her spare time, she enjoys weightlifting, running, hiking and reading.
