Oleg Kovalenko, MD
Senior Faculty, Baylor College of Medicine
Medical Director, Pediatric Electrophysiology
Meet Oleg Kovalenko, MD
From a young age, Dr. Oleg Kovalenko found the complexity of the human heart fascinating. His journey into the field of pediatric electrophysiology began with a deep passion for both pediatrics and cardiology.
While in medical school, he quickly realized he wanted to care for children. His goal is to not only treat an ongoing medical condition but also to educate and support families throughout their journey by ensuring they are well informed.
As a parent himself, he knows how worrisome it can be when a child is diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening heart condition. Therefore, he spends extra time with families to address all their questions and concerns about a diagnosis and treatment plan for their child.
As a pediatric electrophysiologist, Dr. Kovalenko diagnoses and treats children with heart rhythm problems including supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, premature atrial and ventricular beats, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) and heart block.
To treat these conditions, he performs procedures such as cardiac arrhythmia ablations, pacemaker, ICD and loop recorders implantations in patients from newborns to young adults. Most of the ablations he performs are done without use of X-ray which helps to avoid the short and long-term complications associated with radiation exposure.
Ultimately, his mission as a pediatric electrophysiologist is to combine compassion with cutting-edge medical care, ensuring that every child with a heart rhythm disorder receives the best possible treatment. He feels honored to be part of a field that has a profound impact on young lives.
Dr. Kovalenko's areas of expertise include invasive and non-invasive arrhythmia treatment, cardiac ablation and implantation of pacemakers and ICDs.
During his leisure time, he enjoys running, playing soccer and spending time with his family.
