A native of Houston, Texas, Dr. Jennifer Seger is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. During medical school, Dr. Seger served as Class President for two years, was a Peer Advisor for incoming medical students, received the Paul J. Cutler award for Clinical Excellence and received the Paul C. Weinberg award for Medical Ethics. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Seger completed her residency at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, where she was awarded the Most Outstanding Resident Award from the Department of Family Medicine.
Dr. Seger established her family medicine practice in San Antonio in 2004, where she developed a strong interest in preventative health care and wellness. As a Board Certified Family Medicine physician, Dr. Seger saw many patients affected by obesity yet found herself struggling to provide effective recommendations for them. Handing out information on calorie restricted diets and advising them to exercise more, simply did not suffice. It was out of this frustration that she began to research scientific developments pertaining to obesity. When Dr. Mickey Seger and Dr. Terive Duperier opened the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas, Dr. Jenny Seger realized this was the perfect opportunity for her to focus on medical weight loss by developing a healthy lifestyle program.
Through research, attendance at numerous obesity focused conferences, and networking with experienced obesity medicine specialists, Dr. Seger discovered there are effective solutions for medical weight loss. She understands how numerous factors interplay and can lead to the accumulation of fat and the dysfunction of fat tissue which can in turn lead to a number of diseases, interfere with the quality of life, and even shorten one’s life expectancy. Rather than continuing to manage these obesity related diseases, she is now able to help people reverse disease and decrease or stop medications altogether. Her specialty training equips her with the knowledge, skills, and expertise to address obesity and help her patients lead healthier lives.
In addition to Dr. Seger’s medical weight loss program which targets adults, she also provides a Healthy Weight Program for teens and preteens. Dr. Seger’s approach involves engaging the entire family in an interactive discussion about mindful eating and the development of other healthy lifestyle changes which can help them achieve a healthy weight, improve their quality of life, and reduce their risk of disease.
Outside of the office, Dr. Seger enjoys speaking to groups and sharing her passion for health and wellness. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and serves as a Board Trustee for the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP), the oldest medical association focused on the education and training of medical professionals treating and managing patients with obesity and obesity-associated illnesses. She recently served as Co-Chair for the development of an obesity treatment algorithm put forth by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians. The obesity algorithm serves as a tool to help guide physicians, as well as educate the general public, policy makers, and insurance companies regarding the comprehensive treatment of obesity.
Dr. Jennifer Seger is committed to providing excellent medical care to her patients. She is passionate about healthy living, wellness and disease prevention. Since she began practicing medicine in 2002, she has been dedicated to her patients' overall well-being. She is a true advocate for her patients and welcomes the opportunity to help patients achieve a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Seger is a dedicated physician, committed to providing excellent, comprehensive, and compassionate care to our patients. We are excited to have her as a part of our team.
