About

Throughout his career, Dr. Steven Neish has focused on improving the delivery of care for children with congenital heart disease. He firmly believes that involving families in a child’s care can achieve the best possible outcomes. Dr. Neish’s areas of expertise include congenital heart disease, cardiovascular genetics, sports cardiology, health care improvement, and mentoring.

He attended medical school at the University of South Dakota and completed a pediatric residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as a member of the US Army. His fellowship training was at Texas Children’s Hospital and afterward, he became a pediatric cardiologist at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Colorado. He served in Operation Desert Storm and received a Bronze Star Medal and Combat Medical Badge. Dr. Neish rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel before leaving the Army. Following his military service, Dr. Neish was director of the pediatric cardiology fellowship program at Texas Children’s Hospital. Most recently, he was chief of pediatric cardiology and vice chair of the department of pediatrics at UT Health San Antonio.
