Meet Yanet Kopnina (Cora), MD

Dr. Yanet Kopnina is a board-certified hospitalist at CHRISTUS Health in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix and completed her Family and Community Medicine residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, training that rooted her clinical foundation in the health needs of the New Mexico's communities. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing her to communicate directly with a significant portion of the patients she serves in Northern New Mexico.

Clinical Role

Dr. Kopnina practices hospital medicine at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe. As a hospitalist, she is the physician responsible for managing the care of adult patients who have been admitted to the hospital, whether for a sudden illness, a worsening chronic condition, or a medical situation that requires close monitoring and inpatient treatment. Hospitalists coordinate diagnostic workups, manage medications, consult with specialists, communicate with families, and prepare patients for safe discharge. Dr. Kopnina's family medicine training gives her a broad clinical foundation, the ability to manage multiple, overlapping medical problems in a single patient, which is exactly what inpatient care demands.

She provides hospital-based care for conditions such as:

  • Respiratory failure: acute breathing emergencies requiring inpatient monitoring and intervention
  • Sepsis: a severe, life-threatening immune response to infection that requires rapid hospital-based treatment
  • Diabetes management: including Type 2 diabetes complications and blood sugar control during hospitalization
  • Chronic kidney disease: including advanced-stage kidney disease requiring inpatient management
  • High blood pressure: management of hypertensive episodes and blood pressure control during hospital stays
  • Insomnia and sleep-related disorders: evaluation and management during inpatient care
  • Other acute and complex medical conditions requiring coordinated inpatient treatment
