Meet Dmitry Tuder, MD

Dmitry Tuder, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. With over two decades of experience, he specializes in complex hand and upper extremity surgery, trauma care, and reconstructive procedures. He currently practices at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in San Antonio, TX.

After earning his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Dr. Tuder completed his orthopedic residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center and a fellowship in hand surgery at The Hand Center of San Antonio. His distinguished military career includes leadership roles such as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Craig Joint Theater Hospital in Afghanistan and Chief of Hand Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Nationally recognized for his contributions to extremity reconstruction and transplantation, Dr. Tuder has served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Reconstructive Transplantation and as a programmatic panel member for the Department of Defense’s Reconstructive Transplant Research Program. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and delivered invited lectures worldwide on topics including hand transplantation, nerve repair, and management of complex extremity injuries.

Dr. Tuder’s clinical interests include hand and upper extremity surgery, peripheral nerve repair and reconstruction, complex trauma and limb salvage, and vascularized composite allotransplantation. He is fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian.
