CHRISTUS Health is proud to announce the acquisition and implementation of the latest advancement in robotic-assisted surgery, now available to patients in Central Louisiana to minimize recovery times with improved outcomes.

“This technology represents a major step forward in how we care for our surgical patients,” said Dr. James Parrish, chair of the surgery section at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini. “With the da Vinci 5, we can offer procedures that are less invasive, with shorter recovery times and improved outcomes.”

The Intuitive da Vinci 5 has an immersive, high-definition 3D vision system that virtually extends the surgeon’s eyes and hands throughout the procedure.

It is designed to enhance precision, control, and visualization during minimally invasive procedures. The system features a robotic arm that translates a surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, more exact motions using tiny instruments.

CHRISTUS Health recently acquired 15 da Vinci 5 systems for hospitals across its network, reinforcing its commitment to high-reliability care and innovation for patients. The system will be used for a wide range of procedures, including oncology, urology, gynecology, thoracic and general surgeries.

“Robotic surgery is quickly becoming the gold standard for many procedures,” said Dr. Sam Bagchi, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at CHRISTUS Health. “We are proud to lead the way in transforming the caregiving experience for our surgeons and improving the overall patient experience.”

The addition of the da Vinci 5 system at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini reflects the hospital’s ongoing mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care close to home.
