When to Seek Sleep Medicine Care
Sleep problems can affect your energy, mood, focus and daily routine. A visit may help if you:
- Snore loudly or wake up gasping for air
- Feel tired even after a full night in bed
- Wake up often during the night
- Have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
- Feel sleepy while working, driving or watching TV
- Notice morning headaches or dry mouth
- Have a restless legs or leg movements at night
- Work night shifts or have trouble with your sleep schedule
- Have been told you may have sleep apnea
You do not need to know the cause before asking for help. A sleep medicine provider can listen to what you are experiencing and help guide you toward answers.
Sleep Apnea Care
Sleep apnea can cause your breathing to stop and start while you sleep. Many people do not know it is happening until someone hears them snore, gasp or pause while breathing.
You may only notice that you wake up tired, feel foggy during the day or have trouble staying focused. Getting checked can help your care team understand your sleep pattern and recommend treatment that may help you rest better and feel more awake during the day.
Help for Insomnia and restless sleep
Trouble sleeping can feel frustrating, especially when you are doing everything you can to rest. Stress, sleep habits, medical conditions and other concerns can all play a role.
Your provider can talk with you about what your nights look like, what your days feel like and what may be keeping your body from resting well. Together, you can build a plan that supports better sleep over time.
What to Expect
Your first visit is a time to talk through your symptoms, sleep schedule, health history and any concerns from you family or sleep partner. Your provider may ask about snoring, breathing pauses, daytime sleepiness, medications and other health conditions.
If more information is needed, a sleep study may be recommended. This can help your care team see what is happening while you sleep and decide what treatment may be right for you.
Start with a Sleep Risk Assessment
Not sure if your sleep symptoms need care? The sleep disorder risk assessment can help you understand your risk and decide what to do next.
