CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital – Kleberg celebrated the opening of its newly renovated cardiac rehabilitation facility, a significant investment in cardiovascular care designed to help patients recover from heart-related conditions and procedures while improving their long-term health and quality of life.

The $1.3 million renovation expands and modernizes the hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program, creating a more comfortable and supportive environment for patients working to regain strength and confidence following heart attacks, heart surgery and other cardiovascular events.

Riviera Telephone Company, a longtime donor to the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System Foundation, made the renovation possible through its generosity. The company’s support highlights the role community partnerships play in strengthening local health care and improving patient outcomes.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose support made this project possible,” said Rick Morin, president of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital – Kleberg. “This investment will have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our community by ensuring patients have access to the resources and support they need during recovery.”

At more than 3,000 square feet, the renovated facility has doubled in size, expanding access to advanced rehabilitation equipment, individualized exercise therapy and educational resources that support patients throughout their recovery and long-term heart health journey.

Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), the cardiac rehabilitation program reflects CHRISTUS Health’s commitment to delivering integrated care to improve patient outcomes and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

“Recovery does not end when a patient leaves the hospital,” said Dr. Milton Beato, cardiologist at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital – Kleberg. “Cardiac rehabilitation is a vital part of the continuum of care, providing patients with the clinical support, education and guidance needed to regain strength, adopt heart-healthy habits and reduce their risk of future cardiovascular events.”

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. While hundreds of thousands of people survive heart-related events each year, participation in cardiac rehabilitation remains low despite its proven benefits.

The medically supervised outpatient program helps patients build strength, improve endurance and gain the knowledge needed to manage their heart health through structured exercise, lifestyle coaching and individualized education.

The cardiac rehabilitation team works closely with physicians and care providers to develop personalized treatment plans that help patients safely return to their daily activities while establishing healthy habits that support lifelong cardiovascular wellness.

“This renovated space gives us more opportunities to support our patients throughout their recovery journey,” said Yvonne Guajardo, clinical director of cardiac rehabilitation services for CHRISTUS Spohn Health System. “We’ve created a welcoming environment where patients can feel comfortable, encouraged and confident as they build strength and improve their heart health.”
