A Toast to East Texas
Dear Friends of the Foundation,
Many of you have faithfully supported the projects of the Foundation Women’s Board throughout its 13-year history. From our original project, the Family Care Center, through the Pat Herd Women’s Center, the new Mobile Mammography Coach of 2016 and more recently the Pediatric ER Initiative, you have assisted this group in making dreams into reality for the women and children of Northeast Texas. We are grateful.
I am excited to announce the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Women’s Board has chosen the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Expansion as its 2019 fundraising project. Of the 2,900 babies born each year at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler, more than 450 are not thriving and are rushed to our Level III Neonatal ICU. That growing trend is likely to continue. The need is great for more rooms, newer equipment and enhanced family services.
As a former NICU parent, I LOVE this project. In 2012 our twin girls were born at 34 weeks and we spent two weeks in the NICU. We had two Isolette incubators in one small room leaving no space for family. My husband and I spent many long hours scared to leave the hospital. We had expert care and a great outcome, but it was a terrifying introduction to parenting and is why I wholeheartedly support the improvements that are to come.
Some of the wonderful features of the expansion are:
- Double Private Rooms - So many multiples are born these days, and many are born early. Being squeezed into a single baby area adds to the stress of the situation.
- Video Monitoring System - This amazing technology will encourage parents to go home, rest or return to work by allowing them to view their infants in the NICU even while they are away from the hospital.
- Transitional Care Room – This will be a “safe place” for new parents to practice caring for their fragile infants before taking them home, with helpful NICU staff nearby coaching and guiding their efforts.
- Interior Family Waiting Room - A nearby space for family and friends who are so vital at stressful times.
We invite you to help us leave a legacy for newborns in Northeast Texas by sponsoring A Toast to East Texas 2019. Every penny raised will support this Neonatal Intensive Care Unit expansion at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler. Your help can make such a difference in these tiny, fragile lives. Please contact us if you have any questions.
And on behalf of those who can’t yet speak for themselves, thank you!
