CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic Expands World-Renowned Heart Hospital Team in Tyler

New physicians to expand access to life-saving cardiac care for patients across Northeast Texas

Tyler, TX – Patients across Northeast Texas who are fighting and preventing heart disease will have access to a trio of experienced, distinguished physicians as Cardiologists Peter Nguyen, M.D. and Esosa Odigie-Okon, M.D. and Electrophysiologist Joshua Rutland, M.D. join the team at the CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic - Cardiology.

Dr. Joshua Rutland cardiac electrophysiologist, board-certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography, Internal Medicine. When cardiological problems require further testing, Dr. Rutland is ready to listen to his patient’s concerns, working as a team to make the best decision regarding care. His expertise in cardiac electrophysiology allows him to evaluate your heart’s electrical signals to diagnose conditions such as arrhythmia. Dr. Rutland earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also completed Fellowships in Cardiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky and in Cardiac Electrophysiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Nguyen is an interventional and structural cardiologist specializing in diagnosing and treating patients with structural heart disease. These structural diseases are either congenital or develop with time. Dr. Nguyen and his team offer non-surgical, catheter-based procedure to treat many issues including leaky heart valves, congenital defects, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and more. Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston before finishing his residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston. Dr. Nguyen also completed fellowships in Structural Heart Disease at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease at the University of California in Irvine.

Dr. Odigie-Okon is an Invasive Non-Interventional Cardiologist specializing in diagnosing and treating patients with heart disease by advanced use of imaging techniques such as MRI or CT. Dr. Odigie-Okon and her team offer a variety of care options to treat issues such as aortic valvular disease, cardiomyopathy, and more with a special focus in congenital heart disease and the cardiac conduction disorders. Dr. Odigie-Okon earned her medical degree from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria before finishing her residency in Internal Medicine at Yale University-Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, Connecticut. She then added fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, and in Advanced Imaging, Cardiac MRI and CT at St. Francis Hospital – The Heart Center in Roslyn, New York and at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, respectively.

Drs. Nguyen, Odigie-Okon and Rutland are seeing patients at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic - Cardiology, located at 703 S. Fleishel Ave., Tyler, Texas 75701.
