The Importance of Early Detection
Cancers that are found early before they have had a chance to grow and spread are more easily treated. Stay aware and in charge of your health with these tips provided by the experts at the W. Temple Webber Cancer Center at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System:
Select a primary care provider. It is smart to have a doctor before you need one. With a primary care physician, you have a partner in health and wellness. When you’re ill, you have a trusted doctor who knows you and your medical history.
Keep family and/or friends informed about your health. It is better to be overly cautious about your health than to ignore unusual symptoms.
Schedule screenings. According to the American Cancer Society, screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, and some discover cancer before symptoms ever occur. Recommended screenings can vary based on age, sex, race, family history and habits. Review screening options and when they should occur with your primary care provider.
Invest in your health. Don’t let cost prevent you from scheduling a doctor’s appointment or screening. Often, financial assistance for screenings, visits, treatments and more is available to those who qualify.
Stay informed. Know your options for care and determine what is best for you. The professional staff of the W. Temple Webber Cancer Center takes great pride in providing compassionate care.
