Breast Cancer Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is a proven, precise way to target and destroy breast cancer cells. At CHRISTUS Health, we use advanced radiation technology to deliver effective treatment while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
Personalized Breast Cancer Treatment
Whether used after surgery or as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, our radiation oncologists tailor each approach to your unique diagnosis — and support you every step of the way.
When Is Radiation Therapy Used for Breast Cancer?
Radiation therapy may be recommended:
- After a lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) to reduce recurrence risk
- After a mastectomy, especially if cancer was found in lymph nodes or chest wall
- To treat regional lymph nodes (axillary or supraclavicular)
- For metastatic breast cancer to help manage pain or symptoms
Types of Radiation for Breast Cancer
Our treatment planning is highly personalized. Depending on your diagnosis and goals, we may recommend:
- External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT): The most common technique for breast cancer
- 3D Conformal or IMRT: Precisely shapes radiation to target the breast or lymph node areas
- Proton Therapy: Available in select CHRISTUS locations; may be used to spare nearby healthy tissue
