International Applicants

In addition to meeting the GME requirements outlined in our eligibility policy above, non-US citizens who seek entry into U.S. GME programs must obtain a visa that permits clinical training to provide medical services. CHRISTUS Health accepts the following visas:

H-1B

The H-1B visa is available to graduates of foreign medical schools who:

  • have passed USMLE Parts 1, 2, and 3,
  • have a license or other authorization required by the state of practice,
  • have graduated from a foreign or US medical school or hold a foreign medical license, and
  • demonstrate proficiency in written and oral English (typically shown by holding an ECFMG certificate).

J-1

IMGs who seek to obtain this type of visa must first apply to the ECFMG for certification. Please visit the ECFMG website for requirement details.

Not all CHRISTUS Health programs accept visas. Please contact GME@christushealth.org for more informationSince the time to process visas varies, applicants should start the process as early as possible.
