Commitment to Quality Care and Patient Safety

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System has been recognized with numerous national and state awards and designations recognizing our organization as a leader in quality, patient safety and process improvement. Although the national focus on patient safety and quality care are relatively new, CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances has been firmly committed to these goals since 1937. This commitment is reflected not only in the experiences of our patients, but is validated statistically by independent organizations that monitor hospital performance.

It is the Mission of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. It is our Vision, a Catholic health ministry, to be a leader, a partner and an advocate in the creation of innovative health and wellness solutions that improve the lives of individuals and communities so that all may experience God's healing presence and love. And it is the Purpose of CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic to achieve national prominence in clinical medicine through excellence in quality and safety, research, education and innovation.

Our quality and safety efforts are evidence of the depth of work that is underway and ongoing, with the well-being of the patient as the ultimate goal.

Quality Goals

The quality goals of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System are aligned with the national quality agenda, Leapfrog and AHRQ.

Examples of important initiatives include the Code STEMI project, Surgical Care Improvement, Pneumonia Core Measures including pneumovax administration, Ventilator pneumonia reduction and Rapid Response Teams.

Quality Process

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System utilizes a decentralized approach to quality improvement. Both administrative and physician leaders are held accountable for achieving annual System quality goals and individual department goals are established each year. Quality and Safety comprise a significant part of each manager’s evaluation.

Managers use the Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology and LEAN to resolve problems. Over 25 CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances managers and staff received training at the prestigious Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program for Healthcare Quality. These leaders returned to share this knowledge of quality improvement techniques and processes. Upper management received training on Toyota’s LEAN theory, a quicker approach to Six Sigma results. Our basic philosophy is one of a data-driven organization relying on interdisciplinary teams to identify and solve problems.

Quality Reporting

Several major safety and quality initiatives are currently underway at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospitals and CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic and we will be reporting our progress through publications and on the christustmf.org website.
